Hillside Haven – Classic Santa Barbara cottage
This elegant and well-appointed cottage on the Lower Riviera is close to downtown, and a 5 minute drive to East Beach.
Hillside Haven has a special, peaceful and regenerative energy. It is a completely restored 1920’s era home, and all the charming details of this handcrafted cottage were preserved.
You will notice the original tile in both bathroom and kitchen, and the vintage sash windows still have the old weights and pulley in many of them. Many of the light fixtures are also original from 1929 and are still working beautifully. You will appreciate the fine craftsmanship of the plaster and sandstone work on the property and landscaping. Original hardwood floors have been restored throughout the home. The house has been furnished with an eclectic mixture of antiques and reproductions from Mexico, India, Thailand, England and Spain to create a warm, comfortable and happy place to stay.
The private front and back yards boast several fruit trees, including bananas, oranges, grapefruit, lemons, loquats and strawberry guava. You will also find beautiful white and shell ginger along the front of the property acting as a privacy hedge. Colors scatter the grounds with giant bird of paradise, bougainvillea, fuchsia, and geraniums and the air is filled with the scents of the pink, star and white jasmine.
An outdoor dining area, next to the bubbling fountain, is great for relaxing after a full day. The ocean can be viewed from the yard, and the sight of the Channel Islands silhouetted against the Santa Barbara twilight sky is something you will not soon forget.
Its central location offers easy access to all that Santa Barbara has to offer. Take a quick walk to upper Milpas St. for easy dining, a mile further is all the dining and entertainment that downtown SB offers. The Santa Barbara Bowl is just up the street, and the Mission is a 5 minute drive.
